On the evening of the 14th January, Jon was out for the evening with friends, Tim Corrigan, Marc Eberle and Poch and Lo from The Last Home Guest house. This was one of the last photographs taken of Jon

Later on that evening, Jon and Mark's motorcycle was involved in a collision with another motorbike at the intersection of street 154 and Preah Ang Eng St in Phnom Penh. The collision occurred at around 1.30am in the morning. Jon died soon afterwards in Calmette Hospital. The driver of the other motorbike, a 36 year old Cambodian man was also killed. His motorcycle partner, a 24 year old woman was seriously injured as was Mark who was later flown to Thailand for further emergency treatment.
